About the Greater Washington Community Foundation
The Greater Washington Community Foundation works to build thriving communities by providing leadership on critical issues, guiding strategic philanthropy, and inspiring local giving. The Community Foundation stewards hundreds of charitable giving funds on behalf of generous individuals, families, and businesses. Each giving fund provides a flexible, tax-smart vehicle for givers to support the causes they care about in our communities and around the world.
Collectively, our community of givers has invested nearly $1.3 billion through The Community Foundation to build more equitable, just, and enriching communities where all residents can live, work, and thrive.
Our Work in Montgomery County
Twenty-three years ago, a group of visionary county residents—led by the late Clifford M. Kendall and R. Robert Linowes—established The Community Foundation in Montgomery County as a local office. In addition to facilitating our donors’ giving around the world and across our region, we are proud that they collectively have given more than $120 million to nonprofits serving Montgomery County.
Additionally, we are proud that so many people choose to pool their giving through our community impact funds which:
Discover, support, and grow vital nonprofits providing emergency, safety net, education, and workforce development programs to support our low-income neighbors through the Sharing Montgomery Fund;
Innovate the safety net through the Neighbors in Need Montgomery Fund; and
Launch and cultivate strategic public-private partnerships to help our children succeed through the Children’s Opportunity Fund.
Our grantees represent some of the best local nonprofits supporting our neighbors in times of need and helping them pursue pathways out of poverty.
